Silver Spring Jewish Community Gathers to Remember Victims of October 7 Attack

On the solemn anniversary of the tragic October 7 attack, the Jewish community in Silver Spring came together to honor the lives lost. The event, hosted by Sephardic Heritage International, commemorated the 1,200 Israelis killed by Hamas militants and the 250 taken hostage in 2023. In the year since the attack, the ongoing conflict has claimed the lives of nearly 42,000 Palestinians due to Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

One of those remembered was Daniel Levy Ludmir, a 34-year-old doctor who left a bomb shelter during the attack to assist others in need at a nearby clinic. Sadly, he lost his life in the process.

His cousin, Leila Levi, shared her thoughts at the event, reflecting on the importance of commemorating such tragedies. “My preference certainly is that I would never have to talk about this,” Levi said, “but I think it’s a Jewish custom to bear witness, and we believe it is important to commemorate these events annually.”

The gathering, while intimate, highlighted the strength of community and the need to remember the lives and stories of those affected. As the anniversary neared, similar gatherings across the Jewish community were expected, offering hope for healing and the potential return of hostages still in captivity.
